Question

How is the phenomenon of apical dominance used in hedge making?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

In higher plants, the growing apical bud inhibits the growth of the lateral buds. This is called as apical dominance. Auxin synthesized in apical meristem is translocated downwards and inhibit the growth of lateral bud which prevents elongation. Because tea plants and hedges are maintained at a lower height, therefore, it is widely applied in tea plantations & hedge making.
