Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anther of a stamen to the stigma of a carpel. The pollen grains are transferred by agents such as insects, birds, man, wind and water. However, fertilisation in plants is the fusion of pollen grains, nuclei (male gamete with the egg cell) and secondary nucleus of the embryo sac to form diploid zygote and triploid endosperm nucleus respectively. Fertilization in animals is defined as the fusion of a male gamete with a female gamete to form a zygote during sexual reproduction.
