Absorption: The process that involves the absorption of digested food by the body.

Small intestine for absorption:

  1. Small intestine is an elongated coiled tube that secretes digestive enzymes and juices.
  2. These can easily break down any kind of food into its simpler form such as glucose to carbohydrates, fats to fatty acids and glycerol, proteins to amino acids.
  3. Small intestine has numerous small finger-like structures known as villi.
  4. These villi increase the area for absorption of the oxidized food much more efficiently.
  5. Small intestine passes down this digested food to the blood circulation.
  6. Therefore, the nutrients are carried out to each part of the body in their simplest form.
