How is the Taj Mahal threatened by the environment?
The Taj Mahal is threatened due to rapidly increasing pollution around it. The industries present around the Taj Mahal, especially the Mathura Oil Refinery, are primarily responsible for the damage caused to the monument. This refinery, which is located about 50 kilometres away from the Taj Mahal, is causing air pollution. The air around the Taj Mahal has high levels of suspended particulate matter emitted by factory emissions, dust, construction, and exhaust from automobiles. All this is causing the shimmering white colour of the Taj Mahal to become dull day-by-day.
