Question

How is the wrong base removed before proceeding to add new bases in the 5-3 direction during DNA replication?

Open in App
Solution

The DNA is damaged when a wrong base pair is added to DNA during replication. This activates the repair of damaged DNA. Many enzymes are involved in the repair mechanism in which endonucleases cut the defective part of DNA and then the gap is filled with DNA polymerase 1 and then finally DNA ligase seals the repaired part and so on the process of DNA replication go on smoothly.
