  1. Water is an essential compound in the organism's body.
  2. Every metabolic activity needs water to go on smoothly.
  3. Around two-thirds of our body weight is due to water.
  4. Water intake is essential to prevent water loss from our bodies.

Loss of water from the body

  1. Water is lost in the form of urine. The kidneys filter nitrogenous waste and eliminate it in urine from our bodies.
  2. Loss of water also takes place from the skin in the form of sweat. This keeps our body temperature constant in a hot environment.
  3. Breathing also results in loss of water in the form of vapour.
  4. The passing of stools removes some amount of water from our bodies.
