Question

How land breeze is formed?

Open in App
Solution

Land breeze:

  1. During the night, the land loses heat faster than the water due to the differing heat capacities.
  2. As a result, the air above the land is cool and has a higher density. Thus, the pressure is high.
  3. Conversely, the air above the water is comparatively warm. This leads to the expansion of the warm arm resulting in low pressure.
  4. Owing to the movement of air from high pressure (land) to a low pressure (sea) zone, a land breeze sets in.
