Nucleolus:

  1. The nucleolus is the largest structure in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells.
  2. It is the place where the transcription of rRNA takes place and ribosomes are assembled here.
  3. The metabolic activity of the cells decides the size of nucleoli.
  4. The cells which possess larger nucleoli are involved in protein synthesis.
  5. The size of nucleoli varies from 0.5 to 5 µm in a typical cell and around 2-5 nucleoli per cell.
