Question

How light affects germination in Pea and Onion seeds?

Open in App
Solution

Most plants need light to grow and keep them healthy, but not all plants need light to germinate, as some seeds find light a hindrance. The explanation of how light affects some seeds and causes them to be in a state of readiness for germination and yet prevents other seeds if necessary from germinating is highly complex. A seed which requires darkness but is exposed to light will not germinate. Example: Germination in pea seeds is hastened by the presence of light, germination of onion seeds is inhibited by light.
