Question

How many additional ATP are used during synthesis of two molecules of hexose sugar in maize than tomato

Open in App
Solution

dear student,
Maize is a C3-plant and tomato is a C4-plant. 30 are used in the synthesis of 1 molecule of hexose sugar in maize. So, total ATP used in maize is 60 ATP. 18 ATP are used in the synthesis of 1 molecule of hexose sugar in tomato. Therefore,36 are used in the synthesis of 2 molecules of hexose sugar in tomato.
So, 24 ATP are additional used during synthesis of two molecules of hexose sugar than tomato i.e 60-36=24 ATP.
