Question

How many alleles does each person carry for every trait?

Open in App
Solution

Alleles:

  1. Humans are considered diploid organisms because each genetic locus in them has two alleles, one from each parent.
  2. A gene's alternative form is called an allele.
  3. Some genes have distinct forms yet the same genomic position on the same chromosome.
  4. For each genomic location with this variation, a person inherits two alleles—one from each parent.
  5. The person is homozygous for that allele if the two alleles are identical.
  6. If there are differences between the alleles, the individual is heterozygous.
