Question

How many atoms are there in 2 moles of X atom?

Open in App
Solution

One mole of a substance is defined by Avogadro as consisting of 6.022 x 10^23 atoms.
This is Avogadro's number.

To calculate the number of atoms in two moles of X, use dimensional analysis. 2.0 moles

X * 6.022⋅1023g1mol=1.20⋅10^24 atoms of X

The point here is that regardless of what the compound or atom is, 1 mole always contain the same number of atoms, ie avogadro's number of atoms.
