Atomicity - The total number of atoms present in a molecule is called the atomicity of that compound.

Based on the number of atoms in a molecule atomicity is of four types -

  1. Monoatomic
  2. Diatomic
  3. Triatomic
  4. Polyatomic

Number of atoms in polyatomic molecules - more than three

For example - Sulphur - S8, and Phosphorus - P4.
