Question

How many atoms of each element are there in 9.8g of sulphuric acid,H2SO4?(atomic mass,H=1,S=32,O=16)

Open in App
Solution

  • The total molecular weight of sulfuric acid H2SO4= 1×2+32+16×4 = 98u
  • Number of moles of H2SO4 = Given mass/ Molecular mass = 9.8/98=0.1mol
  • Number of Hydrogen (H) atoms in sulphuric acid = 0.1×2×6.022×1023=1.2044×1023atoms
  • Number of Sulfur (S) atoms in sulphuric acid = 0.1×1×6.022×1023= 0.6022×1023atoms
  • Number of Oxygen( O)atoms in sulphuric acid = 0.1×4×6.022×1023=2.4×1023atoms
