Question

How many ATP are formed in Ets from reduced nad generated in one turn cycle of kreb's cycle?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
In a single turn of Kreb's cycle, there are total three steps in which NAD+ is reduced to NADH+H+, which in turn produce ATPs in electron transport system (ETS).
During conversion from isocitrate to α-ketoglutarate.
During conversion from α-ketoglutarate to succinyl CoA.
During conversion from malate to oxaloacetate.
Hence, 3 molecules of NADH+H+ will be produced from a single turn in Krebs cycle.
Now, each molecule of NADH+H+ in ETS produces 3 molecules of ATP.
Hence, total number of molecules of ATPs produced by reduced NAD produced in a single turn of Krebs cycle = (3 x 3) = 9
