Question

how many atp molecules are formed through oxidative phosphorylation of one molecule of alpha ketoglutaric acid entering krebs cycle

Open in App
Solution

Dear student.

1 molecule of α-ketoglutarate in Kreb's cycle will produce 2 NADH2, 1FADH, 1ATP (Substrate level) = 9 ATP.

2 molecule of α-ketoglutarate in Kreb's cycle will produce = 18 ATP.

NADH2 will be formed in two steps:
During the formation of α-ketoglutarate to Succinyl CoA and from malate to oxaloacetate.

FADH will be formed during the formation of succinate to fumerate.

NADH2 - 3 ATP
FADH- 2 ATP

Regards.
