During alcoholic fermentation of glucose molecule, it is oxidized to pyruvic acid by glycolysis. The pyruvic acid is decarboxylated to form acetaldehyde and CO2 . The acetaldehyde is then reduced to ethanol. The process of glycolysis results in the net production of 2 molecules of ATP.
