ATP and NADPH are formed during light dependent reactions of photosynthesis and are utilised during synthesis of glucose. Calvin cycle is involved in the fixation of carbon dioxide and synthesis of glucose. It includes three stages - carboxylation, reduction and regeneration.

During carboxylation, CO2 combines with RuBP and forms 3-PGA. This step does not require ATP.

3-PGA undergoes reduction to form triose phosphate. This step requires ATP.

Triose phosphate is recycled to regenerate RuBP and this step too requires ATP.
