2. It protects the spinal cord and nerves.
3. It gives a structure to the body.
4. The bones that make up the spine are known as vertebral bones.
5. The spine is further classified into the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral regions.
6. There are 7 bones in the cervical region, 12 in the thoracic region, 5 in the lumbar region, 5 in the sacral region and 4 in the coccygeal region.
7. We observe that the bone in the sacral region bone fuse to become one, similar happens to the coccygeal region bone.
