Question

How many bulbs of 8 ohms should be joined in parallel to draw a current of 2A from a battery of 4V? Does this circuit obey Ohm's Law?

Open in App
Solution

Here, it is given that I = 2A and V = 4V
than required resistance in the circuit, R = V/I = 4/2 = 2 ohm.
resistance of each resistor, r = 8 ohm.
if n resistors, each of resistance r, are connected in parallel to get the required resistance R, then R = r/n
=> 2 = 8/n
=> n = 8/2
=> n = 4.
therefore 4 resistors (bulb) should be joined in parallel to draw a current of 2A from a battery of 4V.
