  1. Vertebrate hearts can be classified based on the number of chambers present. Fishes have 2 chambers in their heart, amphibians and reptiles 3 chambers (exception of crocodile which has 4 chambers), Birds and mammals have 4 chambers.
  2. The function of chambers of the heart is to prevent the mixing of blood rich in oxygen and carbon dioxide.
