Solution

Amphibians:

  1. Animals that can live in water, as well as land, are known as amphibians.
  2. They belong to the phylum Chordata and class Amphibia.
  3. Amphibians have a three-chambered heart, two auricles and one ventricle.
  4. This means that the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood gets mixed resulting in an insufficient supply of oxygen to the cells.
  5. The atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the blood vessels (veins) that drain the various organs of the body.
  6. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and skin (which also serves as a gas exchange organ in most amphibians).
  7. Cutaneous respiration is also a mode of gaseous exchange in Frogs.
