Question

How many Covalent bonds are there in a Diamond?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Diamond is an infinite three-dimensional arrangement of carbon atoms in a Tetrahedral fashion. Each carbon atom in a diamond forms a covalent bond with four other nearby carbon atoms. So, you may say that there are four covalent bonds per carbon atom in diamond. But overall the number of covalent bonds is infinite.
