We know that, the number of diagonals in a polygon of n sides is :
$\frac{n(n-3)}{2}$
In hexagon, n = 6
$\therefore$ Number of diagonals in a hexagon $=\frac{6(6-3)}{2}=\frac{6\times 3}{2}=3\times 3=9$
