Digestive glands:

  1. The glands that are present in the human body for aiding in the process of digestion are referred to as digestive glands.
  2. Various digestive glands secrete digestive juices, enzymes, and other substances that ease the digestion process.
  3. Digestive glands present in humans are-
    1. Liver: The liver is said to be the largest gland of the body.
      • It secretes bile juice that helps in the process of fat digestion.
      • Liver also performs several other functions of detoxification, storage of food, and many more.
      • It acts as an endocrine gland, secreting hormones for the regulation of sugar metabolism in the body.

b. Pancreas: This gland also serves a dual function, both as an endocrine and exocrine gland, it secretes several enzymes as well as hormones.

c. Salivary glands: Salivary glands are present outside the buccal cavity and secrete saliva that contains salivary amylase enzyme which helps in the starch digestion.

4. Several other glands are present in the mucosal and submucosal layer of the stomach and small intestine which helps in the digestion process by secreting mucus and some other enzymes.

5. All of these glands have ducts and they pour their secretions into the digestive tract.
