How many envelopes can be made out of a sheet of paper 3 m 24 cm by 1 m 72 cm. If each envelope requires a piece of paper of size 18 cm by 12 cm?

Length of the sheet of paper =3m24cm=324cm
Breadth of the sheet of paper =1m72cm=172cm
Area of the sheet =(Length×Breadth)
=(324×172)cm2=55728cm2

Length of the piece of paper required to make 1 envelope =18cm
Breadth of the piece of paper required to make 1 envelope =12cm

Area of the piece of paper required to make 1 envelope

=(18×12)cm2
=216cm2
Thus, the number of envelopes that can be made

= Area of the sheet ÷ area of envelope
=55728216=258 envelopes

Therefore, 258 envelopes can be made from the given sheet of paper.
