Solution

Functions of human life:

Body functions are the physiological or psychological functions of body systems.

All life has the following basic functions:

  1. Organization
    1. There is a level of internal organization in the cells of living organisms.
    2. In more complex organisms, cells are specialized to perform various functions.
    3. Specialized cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into organ systems, and the organ systems combine to form the organism.
  2. Responsiveness
    1. Responsiveness is the capability of an organism to respond to changes in its internal and external environments (stimuli).
    2. Moving away from perceived dangers.is an example of responsiveness to external stimuli.
  3. Movement
    1. Many types of movement occur within the body.
    2. Molecules moving from one place to another are movements at a cellular level.
    3. Voluntarily, we contract the skeletal muscles to move bones for going from one place to another
  4. Development and differentiation
    1. Differentiation is a developmental process by which unspecialized cells change into specialized cells to perform certain bodily functions.
    2. Development also includes the processes of growth and repair, both of which involve cell differentiation.
  5. Growth
    1. Growth is an increase in size either due to an increase in the size of each cell or due to an increase in several total cells.
    2. Growth happens when anabolic processes occur faster than catabolic processes.
  6. Reproduction
    1. Reproduction is the formation of a new organism from its parent organisms.
    2. Cellular reproduction is the formation of new cells for the replacement and repair of old cells as well as for growth
  7. Metabolism
    1. Metabolism refers to all the chemical reactions that inside the body to sustain life.
    2. Metabolism consists of two phases - anabolism and catabolism.
    3. Anabolism is the process by which smaller and simpler molecules are combined into larger, more complex substances.
    4. Catabolism is the process by which more complex substances are broken down into smaller simpler molecules, thereby releasing energy.
