Double fertilisation is the characteristic feature of all flowering plants. This results seed formation in which one male gamete is fused with egg cell (female gamete) and other male gamete is fused with secondary nucleus. In this way, three gametes are used to form a seed. Therefore, for the formation of 80 seeds there are the requirement of 3×80=240 gametes.
