Question

How many germ layers do cnidarians have?

Open in App
Solution

Cnidarians:

  1. Any creature thought to be a member of the phylum, such as a hydra, jellyfish, sea anemone, or coral. A coelenterate with specialized stinging features on its tentacles that surround its mouth is known as cnidaria.
  2. During the crucial stage of gestation, known as gastrulation, pluripotent stem cells differentiate into the ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm, the three primordial germ layers.
  3. The skin and nervous system are derived from the ectoderm.
  4. Cnidarians are thought to develop from two germ layers, the ectoderm, and endoderm, but higher animals are thought to have a third germ layer, the mesoderm.
  5. One of the fundamental cell layers in an embryo is the ectoderm.
  6. Between the ectoderm, which will develop into skin and cells of the central nervous system, and the endoderm, which will give rise to the gut and the lungs, is the mesoderm, a germ layer that emerges during gastrulation.
  7. The linings of the digestive and respiratory systems, as well as the organs they are connected to, are formed during embryonic development by the endoderm, the innermost germ layer.
  8. Because cnidarians are radially symmetrical, they are identical from all sides.
  9. It also implies that they possess the endoderm and ectoderm, two germ layers.
  10. As the newborn embryo develops during gastrulation, these germ layers take shape.
