Number of groups and periods in a periodic table:

1.The periods are the horizontal rows in a periodic table, and the groups are the vertical columns in a periodic table.

2.There are a total of 8 periods, that extend from 1 to 8.

3.There are a total of 18 groups, that extend from 1 to 18.

Numbering of the periods and groups are done as:

1.The groups are numbered from 0 to VIII. They are in the order: IA,IIA,IIIB,IVB,VB,VIB,VIIB,VIII,IB,IIB,IIIA,IVA,VA,VIA,VIIA, and 0.

2.The periods are numbered from 1 to 7 in a periodic table.

Number of elements in each period:

1.In the 1st period there are 2 elements.

2.In the 2nd and 3rd period there are8 elements each.

3.In the 4th and 5th period there are 18elements each.

4.In the 6th and 7th period there are 32 elements each.
