A genetic disorder is an illness caused by a change in an individual's DNA sequence.
Some of these genetic abnormalities are present at birth, while others are acquired as a result of gene mutations. As a result, genetic illnesses are divided into two groups:
Mendelian illnesses are inherited disorders caused by gene mutations.
Chromosomal diseases are caused by chromosome mutations.
There are about 6,000 documented genetic illnesses, and new genetic abnormalities are described in the medical literature on a regular basis.
