Question

How many identical 2 volts bulb can be safely connected to a 220 volt supply.explain with the help of a circuit diagram

Open in App
Solution

First things first .. In Parallel Connections voltage remains same and equal to supply volatge and in case of Series connection current remains same and voltage gets divided acc to resistance of appliances..

Since we have 2 volt bulbs ..it would be suitable to connect them in series to divide 220 volt in such a way that each bulb gets 2 volt ..thus we have to connect 110 bulbs in series..

but one can also connect them in parallel as many of them but we have to attatch seperate resistances in series with each bulb so that about 218 volt gets dropped around it and bulb gets only 2 volt ..this would lead to wastage of energy though …but more reliable since each bulb is independent of the other and can be removed from the circuit without affectinh other bulbs…

of course one can employ a combination of both the methods depending upon our needs..
