Question

How many ions per mole of the following complexes are present in their solution?
Cu2[Fe(CN)6]

Open in App
Solution

The component in the square brackets is a singular mega unit of atoms i.e complex ion. All ions mentioned outside the square brackets are other ions, ionizable in polar solvents.

In the case of Cu2[Fe(CN)6], it is ionizable completely into two Cu2+ and one [Fe(CN)6]4 ions. Thus, three moles ion per mole of these complexes are present in their solution.
