How many joules are there in 1 kWh?

Open in App
Solution

Concept used: Electrical energy

Prerequisite: Units of electrical energy

Electrical energy:

The energy that is obtained from the potential of the flowing charges inside the conductor to do the useful work is called electrical energy.

Joule is the unit to measure the work done, whereas kWh is the unit to measure the electrical energy. The conversion of kWh in joule can be done using the conversion of kilowatt into Joules and hour into seconds.

Important conversion of units:

The basic conversion of kilowatt in Joules is,

1kilowatt=1000watt

The basic conversion of hours in second is,

1hour=3600second

The amount Joules in kWh will be,

1kWh=1000W×3600s1kWh=3600000J1kWh=3.6×106J

Conclusion:

Thus, there are 3.6×106J in 1 kWh.
