Solution
The correct option is D125
Meiosis is the characteristic division of the reproductive cells. It is also called reductional division because the parent cell produces four haploid daughter cells.
In the case of wheat, a zygote is formed by the fusion of haploid male and female gamete. In male gamete, one meiotic division forms 4 male gametes.
In female gametes, one meiotic division forms 1 egg cell (female gamete) as the other 3 degenerate to provide nutrition to the developing egg cell.
Thus 100 meiotic divisions are required to form 100 female gametes and 25 meiotic divisions are required to form 100 male gametes which total up to 125 meiotic divisions. After fertilization, these gametes will give 100 seeds of wheat.
