Solution

Atomic weight of Co=58.93g.
Number of moles of Co2+ in 100 mg sample =100mg58.93g/mol=10058.93millimoles
The concentration of solution will be C1=10058.93millimoles1ml=10058.93M.
Number of moles of Co2+ in 20 mg sample =20mg58.93g/mol=2058.93millimoles
The concentration of solution will be C1=2058.93millimoles1ml=2058.93M.
The relationship between the concentration and the volume of the solution is C1V1=C2V2
10058.93M×V1=2058.93M×10mL
V2=20×10100=2mL.
Hence, 20 mL of a solution of concentration 100 mg Co2+ per mL is needed to prepare 10 mL of a solution of concentration 20 mg Co2+ per mL.
