Question

How many molecules of hydrogen chloride will be formed when a molecule of hydrogen reacts with one of chlorine?

Open in App
Solution

Balanced chemical equation: It is the type of chemical reaction in which the number of atoms present on the reactant side is equal to the number of atoms present on the product side.
In the given reaction a molecule of hydrogen(H2 ) reacts with one molecule of chlorine(Cl2) and gives hydrogen chloride(HCl)
H2(g) + Cl2(g)HCl(g)

The above reaction is not balanced.

To find the number of molecules of hydrogen chloride formed in the given reaction balance the given chemical equation.

The balanced chemical equation becomes,

H2 + Cl22HCl

Final Answer: 2 molecules of HCl are formed.
