Question

How many moles of hydrogen, phosphorus and oxygen there in 0.4 moles of phosphoric acid

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Phosphoric acid - H3PO4
1 molecule H3PO4 contains 3 atom of H, 1 atom of P, 4 atoms of O.

1 mole H3PO4 contains:
  • 3 moles H
  • 1 mole P
  • 4 mole O
So 0.4 mole H3PO4 contains:
  • 3*0.4 = 1.2 mole H
  • 1*0.4 = 0.4 mole P
  • 4*0.4 = 1.6 mole O
Hence, 0.4 mole H3PO4 contain 1.2 mole H, 0.4 mole P, 1.6 mole O.
