Solution

Polymers:

  1. Polymers are high molecular mass (103-107μ) compounds made up of a large number of simple repeating structural units that are linearly connected by covalent bonds. They are also known as macromolecules.
  2. The formation of polymers is called polymerization.
  3. The subunits of polymers are known as monomers.
  4. Examples: polythene, nylon6,6, bakelite, rubber, etc
  5. The most common plastic is polythene. Its monomer is called ethylene, which has the chemical formula C2H4 and can be thought of as two methylene groups joined together.
  6. Two monomers, adipoyl chloride, and hexamethylene diamine are combined to create nylon 6,6.
