Let thickness of piece of paper be 'T'.
With every fold, thickness would get doubled.
When we fold it 42 times it would become the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
Distance between the Earth and the Moon =242T.
Double the distance between the Earth and the Moon =2×242T=243T. We need to make 43 folds to obtain double the distance between the Earth and the Moon.

Number of extra folds = 43 -42 =1.
