Question
How many nodes are present in 3-p orbitals? Represent diagrammatically.

Solution
The number of radial nodes, otherwise known as spherical shell nodes, is given by
n-l-1 =3-1-1 =1 radial node
in the 3p orbital
The number of angular nodes, is given by l, so there is
l=1 angular node
in the 3p orbital
Thus, the total number of nodes is given by
n-1 =3-1 =2
therefore, total number of nodes in 3p orbital is 2
