How many numbers of shells are related to a period modern periodic table. Explain with the help of an example.

  • The modern periodic table is an arrangement of all the elements known in accordance with their increasing atomic number and recurring chemical properties.
  • It is a tabular display of 118 chemical elements which consists of horizontal rows called periods and vertical columns are called groups.

The number of periods corresponds to the number of shells in atoms of the element present in it. So, if an element is present in the 4th period, it has 4 shells.

For example:

The elements in the 4th period have four shells.

Potassium(19)- 2,8,8,1.
