Solution

The correct option is B 2
Statements B and C are correct. Hence, two statements are correct.

Statements A, D and E are incorrect.

DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is a polynucleotide chain consisting of many 5-C deoxyribose sugar molecules, phosphate groups and nitrogenous bases (purines and pyrimidines).

DNA is a double helix structure having two strands in it. When it undergoes transcription the two strands of DNA get different names as per their polarity and function.

Few terms used for the strands are template, sense, antisense, coding and non-coding strands.

Template strand is a 3’→ 5’ strand of DNA. It acts as a template strand because copying of genetic information from this strand of DNA into RNA (transcription) takes place in a 5'→ 3’ direction. Template strand is also called the antisense strand.

The nitrogenous bases of the template strand and transcribed RNA are complementary in behaviour. That’s why their nitrogenous bases do not match and hence the template strand can be considered as the non-coding strand.

Coding strand is a 5’ → 3’ strand of DNA. It is called a coding strand because its nitrogenous base sequences are the same as transcribed RNA, except for uracil. In place of uracil of RNA, the coding strand of DNA has thymine. Coding strand is also called the sense strand.
