In humans, testes are the male primary sex organ responsible for the production of sperms and androgens.
The development of testes takes place inside the abdominal cavity of the foetus. Testes, later descend into the scrotum through the inguinal canal to avail a suitable temperature for the production and viability of sperms.
The testes hang at unequal levels. The left testis hangs slightly below the right one. This is done to protect the testes from getting crushed by striking against each other. The placement is however not mandatory. The right testis may also hang at a lower level than the left. But, it is experimentally found in most of the organisms that the left testis hangs at a lower level than the right.
