The Security Council is comprised of 5 permanent members (USA, France, Russia, China and UK) and 10 non-permanent members who are elected every 2 years.

Measures in relation to global crises are usually initiated by the permanent members. The non-permanent members can play an important role in matters concerning their respective geographic regions.
