Question

How many phases does a heartbeat have?

Open in App
Solution

Phases of heartbeat

  1. The diastole and systole phases of the heartbeat are divided into two groups.
  2. Initially, the ventricles contract, forcing blood into the aorta or pulmonary artery.
  3. The valves that separate the ventricles and atria seal simultaneously to prevent blood backflow.
  4. During diastole, the ventricles relax and fill with blood, while the valves that connect to the atrium open.
  5. Both phases' rate is controlled by the sinus node.
