Solution

The correct option is B Four
Rhizomes, tubers, corms and bulbs are types of underground modifications of stems.

Rhizomes are prostrate, fleshy, dorsiventral and horizontal underground stem. Canna and ginger are examples of rhizomes.

Bulbs have reduced discoid stems with several fleshy scales that enclose the apical bud. Garlic is a bulb.

Corm is a short, thick, highly condensed, swollen, usually unbranched, spherical or sub-spherical underground stem. Gladiolus is a corm.

Hence, there are only four plants that have underground stem modifications.

Oxalis is a runner while Eichhornia is an offset. Runner and offset are types of sub-aerial modifications of stem.

Wheat has only fibrous roots, that grows as a tuft from the base of the stem.

Saffron has the usual tap root system without special modifications.
