Question

How many radial nodes are present in 5f orbital ?

Open in App
Solution

Radial nodes: It is a spherical surface where the probability of finding an electron is zero.

  1. The formula=n-l-1 Where, Radial nodes Where n= Principal quantum number, l=Azimuthal quantum number.
  2. The number of radial nodes increases with a principal quantum number.
  3. The value of ‘n’ is a natural integer 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.
  4. The value of lis a whole integer.
  5. For 5f orbitals, n=5 and l=3
  6. Therefore, the number of a radial node will be n-l-1=5-3-1=1

Therefore, the number of Radial nodes in 5f orbitals is 1.
