Solution
The correct option is A 250 When meiosis occurs in microspore mother cell, it produces four microspores or pollen grain all of which are functional. When meiosis occurs in megaspore mother cell, four megaspores are produced but out of these four only one is functional megaspore which produces an ovule and rest three degenerate. To produce 200 grains of wheat, we require 200 pollen and 200 ovules. As per above description in order to produce 200 pollen we require 50 reduction divisions in 50 microspore mother cells and 200 reduction divisions in 200 megaspore mother cells to produce 200 ovules. Thus making the total requirement of 250 (50 plus 200).
