Question

How many sperms do 20 secondary spermatocytes make?

Open in App
Solution

Spermatocytes:

  1. Spermatogenesis is the process of production of male gametes from the spermatogonium (proliferative cells that give rise to sperm cells).
  2. Spermatogenesis occurs via the process of meiotic cell division (reductional cell division).
  3. A secondary spermatocyte undergoes a second meiotic division giving rise to two spermatids, which transform into sperms.
  4. Therefore, 20 spermatocytes will give rise to 40 sperm cells.
